Travel advice during the COVID-19 Pandemic

COVID TRAVEL

When the World came to a standstill earlier this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it left us all wondering about the months ahead and for those of us who love to travel (like myself), how would this situation change our travel plans?

Over the past few months we have been helping our clients with their travel related queries and we wanted to write an educational piece to help others during this confusing time.

As we all know the rules are changing daily so be sure to check there have been no further changes to the rules outlined in this blog, since writing on the 7th October. Please check out the government website for the latest information:  https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice

Where can I go on holiday right not without needing to quarantine?

Whilst it might feel like there is little choice currently, there is actually some amazing tourist destinations on the list offering all types of travel experiences, from luxury beach holidays, cruises, skiing trips to sightseeing adventures.

Our beach favourites include; Barbados, Fiji, Mauritius, Seychelles, St Lucia, Cuba, and if you’re looking for something a little closer to home, then certain Greek islands (Corfu, Rhodes, Halkadiki, Kos, Skiathos) or Cyprus are still a great option.

For those who enjoy a cruise, then searching for the latest available options probably feels like crossing choppy seas, but don’t worry there are still some exciting options for cruises in 2021 and 2022.

If you’re a keen skier and the slippy slop of 2020 hasn’t been enough to fulfil your skiing needs, then you could go to incredible resorts in the Italy, Finland, Germany and Sweden.

When lockdown gave us no sights to see we are all more needing than ever to get out and see some culture and heritage. Some great destinations are; Ireland, Dubai (subject to a COVID test), Norway, Italy and Madeira.

Although, under current guidelines, you will not need to quarantine from those listed above, you still need to complete the Passenger Locator Form when returning to the UK. You cannot submit the form until 48 hours before you’re due to arrive in the UK.

What might I expect to be different?

Apart from the obvious social distancing, masks and hand sanitiser which we are all becoming vary familiar with, some other usually holiday favourites might be different.

If you’re like me, then the holiday breakfast buffet is an opportunity to have more courses than you could ever imagine. At home cereal is often enough, but abroad we somehow need the full works and occasionally we step into lunch and dinner territory all in the one go. Not to worry, we can still have our favourite dishes but with the luxury of table service, which now just gives us more time to think about what to order next. Other meal time buffets are most likely to also be table service.

Fighting for a sun lounger in a great spot is a thing of the past, as many resorts have spaced out enough sun loungers for all guests, meaning you have your own VIP chilling area.

You will find that most bars, restaurants and clubs have similar restrictions to the UK, so you may as well be abroad enjoying a strawberry daiquiri.

What can I expect when departing other countries?

Some countries are conducting exit screening tests for all passengers leaving the destination. Before being permitted to board a departing flight, you may have your temperature taken and be asked questions about your travel history and health.
